Me

My name is Jennifer Rose Thurston, I'm 22, a trainee accountant/auditor and I live in Bristol, UK, with my boyfriend Adam. I used to be a chemistry student, so it's all change round here!

I like lots of things apart from knitting, and in spite of it's name there is a lot on this site apart from knitting - although most of it is crafty :) Other things I love are travelling, reading, cooking, sewing, beading, and (most of all) my boyfriend Adam.

The Site

I wanted to call my website Xtreme-Knitting in tribute to other ridiculous extreme sports I've seen, like ironing and wheel barrowing! I started the site in May 2003 because knitting had become my main hobby but none of my friends knitted, and I wanted to talk to other people about it, see things other people had made, and all that kind of thing...and since I didn't have it in "real life" I made this site. It has been worth it :)

I first set up the site in Frontpage, as I had no idea how to make it myself. But now I have a bit more of an idea, and after a redesign I now use MT and wrote the rest myself, using the same style as the MT part of the site.

I have a Canon S50 that my parents gave me for my 21st birthday, which I love and apart from the old photos, that's what the photos on here were taken with.

My Knitting

I learnt to knit when I was about 16 because I wanted to knit my then boyfriend a scarf for Christmas. I mostly taught myself from books, and my mum helped me a bit.

My favourite yarn company is Rowan, and most of the things I make are from their patterns, in their yarn. This is mostly because they're the main player in the UK, but I genuinely love their stuff too. I love Colinette and Debbie Bliss as well.

After a few years of knitting other people's patterns I've now become a fan of designing my own, you can find them on this site.

I realised quite early on that I am The Loosest Knitter The World Has Ever Seen. I ALWAYS have to go down 3 needle sizes to get the correct tension, I'm not sure why.
