Dinosaurs!!
May 12, 2005
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I was trying to delete some duplicated comments, and I think I accidently deleted some normal comments, so don't take offense if you notice your comment is gone - it was just me being a moron!
Here is the knitting pattern that was rejected that I told you about last time.....not clothing as you might have expected, but DINOSAURS!
Clicking on the photo takes you to a pdf of the pattern, which I'm putting on this site for freeeeeee.
Also, if you want more photos without opening a pdf, click here for the photo page for my dinos.
I hope you like them!

Wow - these really are fabulous! Congrats and thanks for putting the pattern up for free. I'm a big girl not a little boy and I LOVE them!

I love the dinos! I can already think of several little kiddies that need knit dinos. THanks heaps for the pattern. Oh and a big fat Bah Humbug to whoever at Knitty decided to reject them!

Hi Jen, I have been lurking here for a wee while - from NZ :)
I am going to have to knit ALL of those dinosaurs for my kids - they will love them - thank you for sharing your pattern - GREAT!!
Posted by: Lyn at May 12, 2005 09:45 AM
Your dinos are so cute! Thanks for sharing pictures and patterns, I'm sure my kids will fall in love with them :) And I'm a bit late, but I wish a very happy birthday (and I hope your job interview has been fine!)!

Thanks for the dino patterns, Jen. They are so cute! I've got three boys AND oddballs of DK cotton, so perfect!
Posted by: joy at May 12, 2005 12:01 PM
I, too, was rejected for knitty. Also, "not right for knitty" I love the dinos, and if you make the pattern available, I would totally make them for my boys! My knitty project was a big-boy toy--a felted football 2-can beer cozy. That pattern will be e,ailed to anyone who wants it!
Posted by: Carrie at May 12, 2005 12:53 PM
WOW!! They are just the cutest!!! I might make one!!!
Posted by: Jeni at May 12, 2005 01:19 PM
I completely love the dino! I have a friend named Bonnie who goes by the nickname 'Bontasaurus'.
I really question Knitty's judgment sometimes. The ridiculous items that end up there...some are sort of useless (knitted wine cozy??) and others are just plain unattractive. Your designs are always fun, classic, and as cute as all get out!
Keep designing!

Those dinos are so totally cool! That was so generous of you to post the pattern for free. Thank you!

Oh thank you, thank you! I have a 1 1/2 year old nephew who has yet to receive anything knit by me. I am going to start on these right away. Great pattern and very nice of you to share. Thanks again (and I hope you had a happy birthday!)

Wow, I LOVE the dinos! I'm thinking that Knitty missed the boat on this one. They are hilarious and sooo cute. I wish I had some munchkins to knit those for.
Posted by: mia at May 12, 2005 05:32 PM
Thanks for posting that pattern, they are adorable and I know my son is going to love them.
Posted by: sharlyn at May 12, 2005 05:48 PM
What a fun thing to knit! They're absolutely adorable. Thanks for posting the PDF.

Hi, Jen!
Thank you for generously sharing the dinosaur patterns! I don't care if Knitty likes them or not-- I do, and I see I'm not alone in saying that! I know it had to have been crummy to get the rejection notice on your birthday, but don't be discouraged! There are lots of knitters twice your age that still wouldn't be comfortable altering an existing pattern, let alone designing their own!
Posted by: Kathy B. at May 12, 2005 06:26 PM
OMG I LOVE THESE!!!
there's a linens catalogue that my mum gets & it has all these great dino creatures that arent for sale....now i can make my own!
thank you! boy, knitty sure missed out on this one!

These are really fantastic! Bah humbug to Knitty!
I need a brontosaurus for myself, forget about the kids.
Posted by: anmiryam at May 12, 2005 08:45 PM
Jen these are AWESOME!!! they are perfect. the sideviews? oh my god - right on!!!
and BTW, someone told me to tell you "she should be glad she even got a rejection notice from knitty - i never even got a response from them AT ALL, after being told it was being looked at!!"
Posted by: carolyn at May 12, 2005 11:16 PM
Oh, Jen, they're fab! I love them sooo much ! Mr Stegs is my favourite, I might just knit it for myself... I really can't understand whi the pattern was rejected. Anyway... thanks for posting the pattern, they'll be a great success ! Does anyone fancy a Dino-along ?
Posted by: Isabelle at May 13, 2005 10:25 AM
Time to start my Christmas knitting! Thank you for the patterns
Posted by: Tracy at May 13, 2005 11:33 AM
They're so cute Jen!! Its true that there are too many patterns for dolls and teddy bears so good on you for designing something different, and great that your sharing these great designs for free!! Most of my friends have little boys so I'll definately give at least one a go.
Posted by: Ali at May 13, 2005 01:45 PM
I have been reading your site for a while now and I love all of your designs! But I just had to comment on these dinos-I can't believe they were rejected. They are adorable, and my 2 little boys just looked at them and asked me to knit them. Good thing we are going to be driving this weekend! Thanks!
Posted by: Carol at May 13, 2005 02:58 PM
Oh wow! I can't believe these were rejected. I LOVE them. Trice is SO FREAKING CUTE! You are very talented. i wouldn't have the faintest idea on how to even start making these (without the pattern of course). thx for providing the pattern.

Great dinos. Those would be so fun to knit! Hope you had a great birthday. I know what you mean about it not feeling like your birthday, at 26 it rarely feels like it anymore! :( I guess it isn't such a big deal to me now?
Posted by: Erica at May 15, 2005 02:26 AM
Hi. Posting for the first time on your site. Just wanted to say - love the dinosaurs. Thanks for sharing the patterns. My 2.5 year old will love them - when I find the time to start yet another project!
Also there is a link for Knitting conversions from French to English - it's on the Knitntyme.com blog. I would just link you in - but I am c**p on the pc and new technology. Have a look.

AAAH! Dinos! That is absolutely FABULOUS. My boy is on a dino kick right now (he dressed as a dino for Mardi Gras last year) and I've got to knit him one of these this summer. Thanks so much for sharing!
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU "OLD" LADY YOU!!!!

These are a fun knit, and funnily enough, even more fun to sew up! Thanks for the pattern, I can see these being a popular kiddy gift from now on!
Posted by: ginchy at May 16, 2005 10:37 AM
Hi!
I just wanted to thank you for posting the sewing instructions. I just made the tweed and tulle skirt (although sadly for the intended use I couldn't put tulle - just one layer of ruffles) and it is great! It was my first time sowing a piece of clothing too - I had made a couple of bags, that's it. I don't knit, but looking at your site it makes me want to learn! I love those dinosaurs! Thank you again for sharing this with us!
Posted by: Claudine at May 16, 2005 03:13 PM
Jen, they are SO adorable!! I definitely know some kiddies that I can knit these up for.... thanks for sharing your talents with us!
and happy belated b-day!

Those dinosaurs are just darling! Thanks for posting the pattern.
Posted by: ShelbyD at May 16, 2005 05:01 PM
These dinos are absolutely awesome! I can't believe Knitty turned them down. Don't be discouraged; I think you've done a fantastic job on them, and on all your other patterns too. I've been knitting for along time now, and have NEVER designed a pattern myself.
Good luck on the job interview, and a belated happy birthday to you!
Now I have to get going on makig some of these dinos for my kids!

Those dinosaurs are wonderful! Adorable!
And keep trying!
Happy late Birthday!

As I was posing for my Klaralund photoshoot I unconsciously did the Jen! This two hands in the air dance is a symptom of a good finished knit!
And YES--Noro is fantastic! Beautiful, beautiful stuff and there are a few designers who make designs that maximize it's beauty. Like this beauty: http://iwpshopinfo.interweave.com/Knits/2005newsletters/2005images/1tydye.jpg
Posted by: Cirilia at May 16, 2005 08:46 PM
I think your dinosaurs are fantastic. You are one very talented designer. I cannot believe that Knitty didn't want them. Their loss!
Posted by: jacqueline at May 17, 2005 03:19 PM
Who needs Knitty when you've got great dinosaurs? Those are really cute. I think I'll have to download that pdf file for when I get around to knitting some kids' toys. Too much stuff is already waiting to hit the needles, but I may have to make some room for those. Cute, cute cute!
Posted by: Krista at May 17, 2005 05:55 PM
Your dinosaurs totally made my day! Bronty has always been my favorite dino. You have lovely designs, and if Knitty can't see that, they're missing out. Keep on truckin, girl!
Posted by: Megan at May 17, 2005 09:24 PM
Oh Jen, these are so adorable! I am in love with Steggy, I'm sure my niece would love these too!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I absolutely looooove the dinos! What is knitty thinking? ;)
I have already started them for my 2 boys. I might have to make 2 sets though. Thanks for the pattern!

Your dinosaurs are soooooooooooooooooo cool! Wow, and I'm just about to start your shrug, too! You're my new knitting hero. Happy B-day!

Just chiming in to say how much I LOVE the dinos--I will be making one this weekend. Thanks for the pattern--I love knitty but I think they were fools over there to pass this one up!

No dinos for Knitty, but a knitted uterus is useful.
Posted by: Corinne at May 21, 2005 03:52 AM
Yeah, I agree...completely adorable and Knitty made a mistake. So glad you posted them though. Thank you!
