It's my birthday.....but it sure doesn't feel like it yet.
May 09, 2005
I guess they just don't feel the same as you get older! But for what it's worth, I am 22 today. The very first communication I received today was an email telling me that my latest design has been rejected for the next issue of Knitty - AGAIN! Apparently this time it just wasn't "right for knitty". I might not bother again, although if I'm designing stuff anyway, I might as well submit it somewhere I guess. Anyway, I saw my parents and Adam this weekend, and will see Adam again tonight, as I'm going to stay at his because I have a job interview (gah!) on tuesday morning in his town (which is where I'm moving next year and therefore I need a job there!). He will cheer me up and make me feel like a princess, because he always does!
Well anyway, knitting. After my latest rejection news I will put the pattern up on this site. All my friends LOVED it, so maybe some other people will too :)
Also, Gemma. I took everyone's kind advice, and worked until the measurements were correct. I hope that doesn't result in the yarn requirements being different! I had to work 2 more pattern repeats (12 rows) to get it the right length to the armholes. Here it is - now I'm working up the armholes having finished the armhole shaping:

Well! Sorry for the glum mood! I don't really mind about the rejection, just bad timing I guess! I'm having a cup of tea and I'm sure I'll feel chipper again in no time :)

Happy birthday! I hope you have a nice cuddly day with tea and cakes and things. As a 27 year old, I can truthfully say that birthdays do sort of start to become less exciting, so you have to really determine to have the best day EVER! Do and eat all your favourite things.
As for your rejection, there is obviously something much better out there for that pattern, anyway I have a little secret propasition for you anyway, so I'll email you today with more details!!
Have a really really lovely day,
Lots of Hugs,
jeni

Happy Birthday! I totally missed that although I remembered last year so I'm not sure how it managed to slip past me this time, sorry!! Poo bum to the Knitty rejection, I thought the pattern was great. I hope your day improves, eat chips and chocolate for lunch...

Happy Birthday Jen! Hope you have a lovely day despite your early disappointment. I'm sure that us visitors to your website will really enjoy knitting your latest design........Knitty just don't know what they're missing.
Also, good luck with the interview!

Hey Jen
It's Caz from Southampton here again! Still loving your work, it is really great! Knitty obviously don't know talent when it smacks them in the face! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope your day has improved and Adam gives you a lovely time!
Take care and I hope to catch up with you both soon!

Happy BIRTHDAY! I hope you enjoyed yourself with a nice pint of Stella.
Keep your chin up! I'm thinking another publication other than Knitty is the one for you and anyway from what I've seen of your work, its all great!

Happy birthday! I too am at the point where birthdays are just another day (I'm 28 in a couple of weeks, and can't help feeling very non-excited about that kind of age). On the other hand, birthdays depend on other people giving you lots of love and wine/beer, so make sure Adam does that for you :D Gemma is looking lovely by the way.
Good luck for tomorrow. Sure you won't need it though!

Happy Birthday! A chocolate ice cream sundae dessert after a chocolate cake dinner should brighten up your day a little. Of course seeing Adam won't hurt either. I can't wait to see the new design!

happy birthday! just you wait and see how you feel when you turn 24 (blah)!! i dont know how anyone can reject your designs when everything you turn out is fabulous!

Well, I for one think your designs are lovely! Don't worry about Knitty! You have something better on the horizon, like your own book or something, and it will be a worldwide best-seller and your name will be listed above Kim Hargreaves and Debbie Bliss when we Google "best knit patterns in the world" in a couple years.
Happy Birthday!

Happy 22nd...just wait till 30 is looming a couple of months away! That said, 22 is kind of sucky, because 21 is so cool. Hope it was a good one, and there was shameless spoiling involved.

bah - sometimes knitty wouldn't know a brill thing if it hit them like a truck. haven't seen your latest design but i know from all the other stuff you design that your work is fab, so don't let that get you down! Happy birthday for yesterday amd hope your interview went really really well today!

Never mind about Knitty - your designs are adorable, and there are obviously PLENTY of people who think so. Aside from Magknits, there are other venues you might explore - Spunmag (http://spunmag.com/) and the Take Back The Knit 'zine might be more receptive. Or just offer 'em up on your own damn site.
And Happy Birthday!

I just posted to your most recent entry, but I thought you might want to know about Chiagu.com (they sell patterns). You can also try to talk to some stores that could sell your patterns for you too, like Knitpixie.com. SpunMag is another good one, I see Mindy wrote about it. You don't need Knitty!!! They took a condom cover but not your dinos?
