Organic wool
June 02, 2005
I have absolutely no progress to show, on anything, but I do have some more WOOL. My Dad has been saying for a while now that he'd really like a dark brown jumper, but made from wool from sheep that are already brown, so it's undyed (a very cool idea I think!), and organic and all that.
I found a website that sells this kind of stuff, they're based in Wales, and can be found here. And I got exactly what he wanted! Plus an extra ball in a light grey heathery shade:

It's a very dark brown, almost black if you're not in good lighting. It's not really soft or scratchy, just wooly!
I have no idea if this is the right sheep, but it reminded me of a photo Adam took in the lake district 18 months ago, of a little brown sheep!
SHEEPY!

I'm going to design his jumper, but have no idea how long it will take etc etc, so I'll probably keep it a secret until it's finished in case I submit it somewhere or whatever. His birthday is in October so it would be good to finish it by then!

Baa!
It has turned cold here again - I think the jumper will be needed soon.

personally, i love the idea of knitting from yarn that is undyed and had very little processing. i'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Could you translate Jumper into something a girl from Pennsylvania/Florida would understand and know what it is you are making your dad? I am thinking one piece~zip up~work suit.

That yarn is great! Organic and undyed sounds very natural and normal at the same time. I'm interested in seeing how it knits up!

Cascade makes a natural wool called Eco Wool in the natural sheep colors. They not only have a broad range of browns, but a pretty broad range of blacks as well. It's a bit on the heavy side - around 3.5 stitches per inch, I think. But lovely, and a ton of yardage per skein.

i love that heathered grey you bought in addition to the brown. it looks so nice and wintry.

Cute sheep! ^_^ I love the idea of using natural colour wool too. Best of luck with your design. What a great project.

What a great idea, using the sheep's natural color! I love the grey you have there. I'll have to see if they ship overseas, I'd love to do a Rogue in that Jacob.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!
