Advice needed on high heels!
October 03, 2005
This is nothing about knitting at all, but if anyone has any ideas/experience that would be ace!
Basically, the heels on my high heels have totally worn away at the bottom, and look rubbish. Is this because they were cheap, or it is because I walk in them for an hour a day (to/from work)? If I buy better quality shoes will it still happen?
Thanks!

if you really adore your shoes (cheap or not), take them to a cobbler and get new heels put on them - some places will do it in under an hour, lunchtime cobbling i suppose. better shoes might wear better, but honestly if you don't love the shoes are you really going to wear them anyway?
*love* your designs, by the way - and congrats on the new flat!

That will happen to the best of shoes if you wear them alot. Just have the heel replaced. If the shoes still look good, it can be cheaper to buy a new heel than an whole new pair of shoes.

Next time you buy a pair of high heels, get toe and heel plates (or just heel plates if you prefer). Sure, they make your footsteps sound louder, but the metal plates stop the heels wearing away like your current ones have. Always
worked for me.

You could also leave your heels at work, and wear better shoes for walking when you are travelling to and fro. I had to do that when I lived in a really snowy area and rode the bus. Good luck!

I've had this problem with both cheap and quite expensive shoes...I think it has to do with both the shape of the heels (are they chunky? My chunky wood-soled shoes have been the worst offenders) and the way one walks. Mine wear out on the outside corners...I've had several pairs reheeled without incident, so I'd give that a try.

Once you've gotten the heels replaced, you can do like so many women in the US and wear tennis shoes/sneakers over your hose/stockings/tights (whatever you call those things where you are) to and from work. May look a teeny bit silly, but I guess it saves the heels.

This happens with any heeled shoe that is worn often, everyone is telling you to replace the heel - you don't need to do that! Just have the tip (should be rubber) replaced

As the guys say above, it still happens with expensive shoes, but sometimes you get an extra pair of heel tips with them. My friend got a pair of lovely shoes from Kurt Geiger, and she was told she'd need to have the heel redone once a month... That's a lot for 200 quid shoes...

You could just get the tips of the heels replaced. That is a pretty normal thing to do.

Bummer news...I had to rip my Blackberry out. After I swatched and did the first 5 rows of the sleeve, I had to admit the yarn I chose just isn't going to work. It's too hairy, variegated and thin. I still plan to make it, but I will wait for the perfect yarn.

The best thing is to get them reheeled with metal. You'll sound like a sargeant major walking down the road but they do last so much longer!
