Cashmerino
November 28, 2005
I have been pretty busy, so let me show some knitting I did a couple of weeks ago but have been too lazy to blog about.
I ripped the hood off my Debbie Bliss cabled hoodie, because it was stupidly long and covered half of the elaborately cables back! Here's a little photo (I've also updated the page with the big photos on it but if you've seen this little photo you've seen it all, I promise!):

And with of the ripped out yarn, I made a headband, from a pattern I found on craftster - it's a very cool pattern, easy and cute :)
OK well, I'm still plugging away at Dad's jumper for now, I had forgotten how big a man jumper is! Good job Adam doesn't want any more jumpers, I'm going to stop offering now I remember how long the bloody things take!

More Organic Wool
November 21, 2005
I'm off work this week! It sounds better than it is (I'm off to revise for exams and do some Christmas shopping) but it's still very nice to be home and get a small lie in!
I've finished one piece of Dad's jumper (the back) and I seem to be on target with yarn quantities as well so that's good. Here's a picture of the finished piece:

And another one from a funny angle, which shows the texture and colour much better, oh well on my monitor anyway!

I also was emailed (from someone who works on an organic sheep farm) some photos of the actual sheep the wool is from! Very exciting! I showed a photo of a little brown sheep when I first showed this wool, but it was a different sheep (I knew I'd be wrong!). The main dark brown wool is from a Hebridean sheep:

And the light grey one which I'm using just at the cast on edge is from a Jacob sheep!

I really like seeing the exact kinds of sheep it came from! Well, onto a sleeve next :)

OK so that's done!
November 15, 2005
I knew it would be quick! I've finished Bless, after a couple of sessions of knitting. It needn't have taken that long really, but I had studying to do :) I'm storming away at Dad's jumper now, so all is good. I really like the finished shrug. I was a bit bored of all the shrugs and ponchos and the like (yes I know I've made some and even designed a shrug!!), but I think this one is dead cute - I like the way the edging sort of stands up so it's like a collar, and I was really taken with the colour. Here's a little photo, click to see some more views and details on the yarn/pattern etc.
Thanks again Kim!

I bought another one!
November 14, 2005
I know I said I'd probably buy another Kim Hargreaves kit, but even I wasn't prepared for the total lack in self restraint that resulted in me getting one already! You can see it here. I'd really like some of the bigger projects actually, but definitely can't afford them at the moment - nor the time as I must speed ahead with Dad's jumper. I did start this one already though - it's really quick, in Biggy Print so also on huge needles.
Here's a close-up of the knitting, I really love the colour, Mermaid:

I've also done more on Dad's jumper, and will show that maybe next time, along with some really cool sheep info I got emailed :)

Grace, my lovely new beret
November 08, 2005
Well, she's not SO new actually - a couple of weeks old. But I still think she's lovely! I hoped I wouldn't look like an idiot in a beret, and I don't think I do. If you do, please be kind and don't tell me! I've worn Grace a lot already, and I will a lot this winter. It was a fun pattern to knit, and very quick. I'd recommend buying kits from Kim Hargreaves, and I will again! Probably sooner than I really deserve too..... :)
Vogue says berets are super hip right now, which is novel for me!! Haha, well anyway onto the photos:
Click on the photo for bigger ones (of other angles).
Thanks for a cool design Kim!

Organic Wool Progress!
November 06, 2005
OK no hat this time - Adam is away for the weekend, and I need him to take some photos of it, but next time! I'm sad he's away, but it's actually let me get on with lots of things I wouldn't do if he was here, like working, so that's good. I also made a good start on my Dad's organic wool jumper. It is my own design, but quite a simple one so far, it's easier to design for men because there's not as much need for shaping! So far I'm making the back and it's just a big rectangle :) I've decided to show it off while making it. I know that stops me from submitting it anywhere, but it's not like I don't have lots of other ideas. Also I don't want the pressure of finishing it for a deadline - I remember how long Adam's zippy jacket took me!
Here's how far I've got:

Split over 2 needles otherwise all you'd see is a huge bunched up load of knitted fabric! I cast on in Jacob wool, and then changed to Hebridean. I hope it's not too dark to see, but I'm making a simple little pattern with purl sts as well, I really like it - I'm not a big fan of fancy stuff for men, and more importantly nor is Dad!
Here's a close-up:

I bought 15 balls and I'm just onto the 2nd. I hope that's a good sign!
OK hat next time definitely!
