Rowan 39

February 20, 2006

Our new router came today - hooray! First proper update in ages...

I'm pretty busy at the moment, concentrating on secret project no. 56987356897, but I did finish a scarf last weekend (I'll show it off next time). I went to get a ball of wool to fringe it, and I picked up the new Rowan while I was there. I didn't look at it first, cos I was in a rush, and I sort of wish I had! You all must know I am a total Rowan addict, I mostly use Rowan yarns, and I have knitted a lot of Rowan patterns over the years - usually when I get a new Rowan mag I want to knit about 10 things in it and usually end up making a couple. But I don't really want to make anything in this one! I don't think it's bad, just not as exciting as usual. Maybe it's because I have lots of ideas of my own and I want to focus on them, I don't know - still I was a bit disappointed.

But instead of picking out the things I thought were poo or boring (I hate it when people do that about my designs!), I thought I'd just say the bits I liked...

I like this KSH cardi thing:

But it's only in one size and I'm kind of small on top so I'm scared if I made it it might swamp me.

I also like this cardi:

But I am not convinced about cotton glace and have no real inclination to start another fine gauge project.

My favourite thing is these wrist warmers, which aren't a pattern, just something you can buy in a shop!

I like them a lot.

I also really liked the denim section, I really want to bleach some denim now :) So there's my "review". I suppose in some ways I'm glad I didn't want to drop everything and start one of the projects, thats the last thing I need!

Back next time with the scarf!

hey jen -- i totally agree about the new rowan! it's quite disappointing... i have the subscription, so i got the issue a couple weeks ago. i think they should spend more budget more for the designers and knitters and less on the stylists and sets! what are they trying to sell... innovative knittable patterns or haute fashion concept? i miss the days of 'vintage knits' and 'a season's tale'! <3ing and missing kim hargreaves...

i am a total rowan junkie also, and i'm kinda glad i didn't renew my subscription in time to get the spring issue. after talking with a shop owner this weekend, apparently rowan is going through some sort of change over. i just hope that they take a look at the feed back and fix their direction fast!

you can make up a pattern for those wrist warmers, easy peasy. and i agree, i think that KSH would swamp your tiny frame. :)

Hello- Just stumbled across your knitting blog and I love it! Great entries & pics. Do you have any advice as to where I could find the pattern of wrist warmers that we viewed in Rowan?
Have a great day!

Hey Jen - glad to see you posting again... was missing you ;)

I know what you mean about the Rowan mag, there's probably no more than 4-5 things I'd knit from this issue, I certainly won't be renewing my membership now that's gone up too :(

Have a good evening

Thanks for showing those wrist warmers! I have been on an embarrassing jag of knitting them - I'm in a cold classroom and need them, and also I have a small set of circulars made by clover that are just perfect for doing them. And they make great gifts.

I am trying The Carolina sweater pattern in the new Rowan
339 and I cannot understand what they mean when they use the wording DOUBLE in the tension and DOUBLE in Main section instruction DOUBLE cast on. Can someone please explain.
