Who knew actually finishing projects could be so much fun?!
August 07, 2006
I was so excited when I finished Gemma, that I spun around in a circle until I felt sick and had to stop.
I don't have too much to say that isn't on Gemma's own page, so why not click the little photo and have a look! All I will say is I like the finished jumper even more than I expected too - I was so sick of seeing the pieces in a bag that I thought I'd be all blase about the finished thing, but I'm not, I love it. Also, Gemma had been sitting around for over a year, and I finally finished her, which gives me hope for all the other unfinished knits! Hoorah!
PS I am glad to award both people who asked in the last post imaginary owl stickers! Go ahead and pretend you're wearing them! By the way they have an owl on and say "Very Clever" underneath it.

Gemma looks AWESOME! It's one of those sweaters that I'd love to have, but don't have a desire to knit... when you get tired of yours send it on over. Great job Jen!

Lovely.
I sometimes start projects which hang around for a year... when you start knitting for a 3 y.o, and he has suddenly become a 4 y.o, it's a bit more of an issue. I've wasted a lot of time (and yarn!) that way. At least you're not still growing :-) so it doesn't matter if it takes a while.

Oh, Goody! I never ever win much of anything, let alone an imaginary owl sticker. Thank you!
This sweater is absolutely perfect for you! Congratulations on finishing it! I especially like the slightly longer sleeves.
I suppose the alignment of the pattern could be a pain, but it looks from here that you did a fine job. Remember -- no one but you sees it that closely!
Now I really want to knit a sweater for myself. I've made a baby one, and one for my nine-year-old son, and am almost finished with a shrug for my 14 year-old daughter, but there's a lot of pressure to find The Perfect Sweater, if I'm going to make one for me!
First, must finish two "second" socks, a hemp ponchette for daughter, daughter's shrug, son's teddy bear . . . look who's feeling guilty!

I read all your posts about Gemma with GREAT interest. My experience of knitting Gemma followed much the same pattern as yours including timescale and exasperation with the ends. I did think of doing it on a circular needle but thought the loops would make it impossible, I'll now try doing a swatch of the six rows to see if it'll work, it would be a relief not to have all those ends.
Like you I did the sleeves first. I'm now almost finished the back and still have the front to do. I know I'll love the jumper when it's finished, I really like the effect, but I haven't enjoyed knitting it very much. Probably mostly due to the ends, and the fact that all the looping takes ages and doesn't advance the inches very much.
Yours looks totally great. I'm doing mine in the 2nd colour scheme of purple and red. P x x x

Oops, sorry about all those duplicate posts. It kept saying an error had occurred so I assumed it hadn't worked.

Beautiful!!!
It looks soooo good on you!
I wasn't fussed about it when I saw the pattern, but it really does look fab!
Well done for sticking to it - the results more than make up for all the work.
Hoorah indeed :o)

Gemma looks totally fab, and fits you very well. She's on my to-do list and the yarn has been earmarked in my stash since that mag came out! I like your ideas about coping with the ends - that's what has stopped me knitting it so far. Maybe I'll get round to it soon.

I love her! She's turned out so so pretty, what a great pattern. Ok, it took a while to finish her, but you should be so proud, it was totally worth the effort, you've done a fab job with her. She looks fantastic on you!! xxx
