Some worryingly small knitting
February 06, 2007
Before I left for France, I finished the front of the Sublime sweater. I was pleased, but some things about it are concerning me.
1. It looks small. I know I am not busty, but it still looks small. But then I measure it and it's just slightly bigger than my actual chest measurements, so maybe it's ok?
2. The bottom keeps rolling annoyingly. Maybe it won't do that when it's sewn up, I sure hope not or I will have a cold belly.
3. It looks kind of slanty. Surely it can't be? Or is it?
4. If I have enough yarn to finish, it will only be by a couple of yards, and that makes me uneasy.
5. All these vague concerns mean I don't want to knit on it at the moment, what I really want is to buy the new Rowan and some new yarn, and start something new. But that would be naughty.
Have a look anyway:

And now (drumroll) is all the knitting I have done in the past 2 and a half weeks:

Is it any wonder I finished practically no projects in 2006? I suppose productivity isn't helped by the fact that for all of 2007 so far I've been super sleepy all the time! I really ought to do some knitting now, but I'd prefer a nap!

That rolling calls for some aggressive blocking! Don't take no for an answer. It looks lovely, despite your concerns!

Rolling can be a real problem. I agree, if you gently but determinedly steam iron it that may be enough to stop it from rolling. Otherwise you might have to add something to the bottom to weigh it. I can't see any slant! And I often think things look too small when I'm knitting them and they're fine when sewn up. I think your jumper looks really fab. I got the new Rowan mag on Saturday and I'm really pleased with it.

No amount of blocking in the world will kill the rolling of stockinette - you're going to have to crochet a few rows all along the bottom or pick up stitches and add either ribbing or a non-rolling stitch (garter or seed come to mind).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

I disagree - a fierce blocking should make a difference, even if it just makes the rollyness smaller.

I think you should call it some names, like RoleyPoley, and then go take a nap! =) That's the kind of advice you get from a beginner knitter!

Looks pretty so far! But I must of course give you a hard time about knitting, what, ten rows in two weeks? ; ) Just kidding of course! Keep up the good work, hope your yarn holds out, and I can't wait to see it when you finish!

Really like your Sublime sweater. The twisted stitch pattern is interesting yet classic. Can't wait to see it.

People really need to take naps more often. Sometimes a 15 minute nap leaves me very refreshed and I can knit and knit and knit! :)

Hey thanks for the comment(s) :P The flapjack was awesome (for everyone else!) I made it from the river cottage family cookbook. I actually made two batches and took it into uni where it was devoured by everyone on my course lol. Now they keep asking if I'm going to bake anything else (noooo what have I started!). Anywho just wanted to drop by to give you this link to the most awesome cupcake blog ever. I was pracitcally drooling over my laptop which is never good.
