Kimonos, capes, cake and kits!

March 01, 2007

Well! I wasn't going to leave it so long before blogging, but a crafting emergency got in the way of regular activity! Some friends are having a murder mystery party, and I found out last weekend that my costume had to have a kimono in it. I don't have a kimono! But I remembered this free downloadable pattern that I have been pretty fascinated with for ages, and decided now was the time to make it. It's a kimono style jacket by Alexander McQueen, and is available here. Seriously, click and have a look, it's a pretty gorgeous jacket! I decided to make it on Monday, and spent the evening rushing to the shops for fabric, and then cutting out and sticking together 50 A4 sheets of paper to make the pattern - effort! And that's what I've spent the last 3 evenings feverishly making. It's now done, looks pretty much like what it's supposed to, and I'll show it off next week after I've taken photos at the weekend!

In the meantime....I have almost finished the Cold Shoulders capelet. I went to a fun Stitch and Bitch at a very cool vegan cafe in Bristol, and did a lot of crocheting there. So I'll have that to show off soon too!

Also, I had some friends round for dinner, and for dessert I made a Boston Cream Pie, my god it's awesome and I'm definitely making it again:

And ALSO, have you seen Kim Hargreaves new collection? I'm in love with the whole lot, I love the neutral shades and the shapes, especially the large sleeves on several of the jumpers. My very favourites are Pure, and Still. Also Pure is knitted in RYC bamboo soft, which I stroked last time I was at the shops, and it feels heavenly. Well, I like them better than anything in the new Rowan, and want to make both! I need to work out some rules about what I need to finish before I get a new kit!

I've never looked at her stuff before - it's nice. I've got about 5 projects waiting though, so I'll have to wait! Hope you do some so I can knit by proxy!

Love the kimono top. I have an Amy Butler pattern book that I'm keen to make stuff from, particularly the kimono and pyjama bottoms. Look forward to seeing it. I finally figured out how to allow anyone to leave a comment on my blog now! Just changed a setting!

Oh..my..God. I'd never seen kim Hargraves stuff before either. Now I'm all about it. I NEED almost everything. Except for I keep ignoring the pound sign and thinking it's dollars and that's a bit dangerous. I'm in love. :)

That cake looks amazing.

Thanks, Jen, for the Kim Hargreaves link - I didn't know she had set up independently! I'm also in love and have just ordered a couple of itsybitsy things.... It's just too much to resist, especially getting the kits. My nearest Rowan stockist is about 50 miles away, so I really have a valid excuse! Really!

You should seriously start thinking about adding a Cooking page where you can put the recipes up of things you make. It's just downright cruel to show that off and not share the recipe. =)
