Outrageous pink scarf
June 21, 2007
Here's the next finished project - this time it's an extremely frilly, big pink crocheted scarf. When I started, I knew exactly what I wanted this scarf to look like, I had 5 balls of Rowan Kidsoft to use to make it, and I wanted to use as much of them as possible.
I started it on a plane, and because it was all stuffed onto my lap, I didn't realise that it was far, far too long until it was too late to go back! Firstly because I didn't fancy ripping out all that fluff, and secondly because it would have been far too demoralising. I had decided to gather it along the foundation chain and stitch it in place, which would make it shorter and more frilly, but my mum had the idea to just sew it in half, which would have the same effect but be neater, and I liked that better.
Here's the scarf before I sewed it up:
It was stupidly long! But also quite funny, and since I knew it wasn't staying like that it didn't scare me too much! And here's how it looks now:
Click on the photos to see and read more about the scarf, including some instructions should you want to make your own! I like it a lot, although it's almost summer now so I won't be using it for a few months. Now I'm going to try and get the Sublime sweater ready to blog about next time!

Lovely soft blanket
June 18, 2007
Here's the first finished project as a result of my finishing efforts - expect more soon! It's my blanket, knitted from 5 balls of 5 different Artfibers yarns. I had intended to sew a fabric edging on this blanket, but in the end decided it would suit the blanket better (and be easier) to use the tiny bit of yarn I had left (Artfibers Whisper) to tie on a little fringe. I like it lots, I think it goes well with the whole look of the blanket.
I really want to try more Artfibers yarns now, they are so gorgeous in both colour and texture. I will definitely be visiting the shop again if I'm ever in San Francisco! Although you can also shop online....

Blue Sky Alpacas Cotton Tank
June 12, 2007
I'm glad you guys liked my holiday snaps! I really wish I was still on holiday....
This is my first piece of holiday knitting. Apologies in advance for the dark photos, Adam still has a bug from the travelling, and so I was lucky to get him to take any photos, there was no chance of going outside to take them! Thanks anyway poor thing xxx
I basically just made this up on the train, and started straight away, working out each part as I got there. It's a pretty simple tank, but I did all the shaping between the eyelet columns, so they get closer, then further apart, and finally come very close together around the neck - I like the way they look, it is pretty satisfying to make something simple look neat!
Also the yarn is very lovely, and I think I will enjoy wearing this one (I hope so anyway, I always think that and then never wear anything I make!).

The next couple of weeks I have decided must be finishing weeks. This means I have to weave in the ends and photograph about 5 different things, which are all only an evening away from being complete. It seems very silly to have them all sitting around! So now I've said that I expect I'll not manage a thing, but look out for lots of other finished things soon!

Back in the UK!
June 11, 2007
The last 3 weeks went far too fast! Adam and I had a fantastic time in China, we managed to visit a lot of places and see lots of great things. I'm writing this at 5:30 in the morning, because I woke up an hour ago and was too hungry to go back to sleep!
I thought I'd try something new with the photos this time, and link to my facebook album - it took me about 2 hours to pick 60 photos to upload and I don't have the energy to narrow those down to 10 or so, resize them and put them on this blog! If you are interested, you can see the photos here. We went to Shanghai, Chengdu, Xian, Datong, Beijing, Nanjing and Hangzhou - and we think there are probably another 3 trips to make before we visit all the places we wanted - it's an enormous country!
As for knitting, I managed to design and knit a simple eyelet tank from the Blue Sky Alpacas cotton, and crochet most of an enormous ruffley pink fluffy scarf - that is the most holiday knitting ever! And I only really knitted on trains and planes. I'll show those things off next time, now I suppose I'd better get up properly!
