Lollypop!
July 22, 2007
I am certainly glad I finished my Lollypop sweater over a week ago, because I haven't knitted a thing for the last week, and I wouldn't have had anything to show otherwise. What I will show next time remains a mystery, as I'm having the most unproductive spell ever.
Anyway, here is the sweater! I wanted to try making a sweater with a circular yoke design, but thought I'd try a relatively simple version first before adding any fairisle. And this is the result! I think it turned out very wearable (she says, having not worn it yet, haha), and I will start secretly working on my fairisle project soon.
Click on the photo to see more. I knitted it in Debbie Bliss Rialto, which is very nice and comes in some lovely colours, I can see myself using it for another project quite soon. Also, there is a gorgeous cabled vest on the cover of the pattern book for this yarn (click here), I would very much like to make it at some point. Anyway, I hope you like the sweater!

Chocopillar!
July 15, 2007
I need to get out of this routine of only posting on a Sunday - that's 3 in a row now! I have a finished stripy lollypop jumper to show, but that will have to wait for next time, because today's finished project is far more important...it is the Chocopillar!
This new caterpillar (knitted from my pattern on the free patterns page) is in honour of Adam's birthday (along with lots more masculine presents later in the week of course!), and has fitted straight into our household. It gets on with the Caterpillar like a house on fire:
I knitted it from Rowan Felted Tweed in Phantom and Kidsilk Haze in Villain (I wanted the more appropriate Cocoa Felted Tweed, but it wasn't in stock). Firstly it had a black face, which no one could see, but the caramel-like brown worked far better!
Click on either of the photos to see more! Has anyone else out there made a caterpillar? I'm not sure I've seen one on the internet, please let me know if any of you has made one.
I realised the other day that I haven't posted much baking here for a while, which is a shame because I've been making loads of nice things! But none of them have been as pretty as this apricot tart my Dad made this weekend:

And it tasted even better than it looks! I'm going to do some baking myself now, look out for the Lollypop jumper soon.

Wacko "fashionable" knitting, and more new yarn!
July 08, 2007
Firstly, thanks for your comments on the smokey/sublime sweater, I'm glad you like it. As to whether I'll get a pattern together....well I certainly intend to! But I'm scared to promise a date, because I will almost certainly not meet it and that would make me feel stressed! I'll keep you updated.
For a change, I have actually been doing a lot of knitting this last week. That's because it has rained here SO MUCH lately, and I didn't want to go running etc. I have been knitting on the stripy lollypop sweater, and it is so nearly complete I might well just wait and show it off finished, although that statement will probably jinx it now!
I do have some things to show though. I bought Vogue this week, which has all the a/w 07 stuff in it, and found some hilarious photos of what is supposedly trendy knitwear this winter. Remember when I made this Big Wool scarf? Someone said it looked like the scarf was going to eat me, and they were right, but check out this scarf:

It's gone mental! It's going to eat us all! And look at this one:

And check out this elegant, slinky little number:

At least I already have that Big Wool scarf, so I'm extremely trendy already!
I also went to Get Knitted this week, the only reason I hadn't been before was before I was confused about where Brislington was and I'm a nervous driver, but I drove past it every day on the way to a client's this week, so headed straight down there this weekend!
Here we can see the caterpillar, excitedly contemplating an extremely embryonic chocopillar:

Look out for that little cutie soon! Also I spent an absolute fortune on Blue Sky Alpaca yarn. I will make something secretly with it, but just wanted to show off the gorgeous colours:

I got 9 of the grey and just one of each of the greeny colours. It feel like a dream! I'm quite excited. Next time: Probably a finished Lollypop!

Sublime Smokey Sweater!
July 01, 2007
I just disappeared for a while there - very busy! I kept meaning to post and then suddenly it had been ages - oh well it should be a bit better from now on I hope! I finally got round to photographing the finished Sublime sweater. I renamed it Smokey, as it needed a proper name and it was the lovely smokey blue colour that made me buy the yarn in the first place.
In the end, it took almost all of the yarn to make - I used 2 balls of Sublime Kid Mohair, and 7 balls of Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK. Some things disappointed me when I finished...and then I realised I liked the sweater better for those things!
Firstly I thought the sleeves were too big, but now I'm wearing it and the sleeves are so snuggly I wouldn't want them any other way! Secondly I thought it was a bit too short - that's because it rolls a lot and also was never meant to be long. But I'm wearing it now over a long-ish vest top, and I really love the way it looks layered, and it would look equally good with most of my tops.
So it all worked out very well in the end, even if it wasn't exactly what I intended! I seem to be doing this a lot at the moment (see the outrageously pink scarf post). Happy days! I'm sure I'll totally cock something up sooner or later though.
Click on the photo to see more. I'm very pleased with my finished sweater, I'm going to work on my Lollypop sweater next!
