Sublime Smokey Sweater!

July 01, 2007

I just disappeared for a while there - very busy! I kept meaning to post and then suddenly it had been ages - oh well it should be a bit better from now on I hope! I finally got round to photographing the finished Sublime sweater. I renamed it Smokey, as it needed a proper name and it was the lovely smokey blue colour that made me buy the yarn in the first place.

In the end, it took almost all of the yarn to make - I used 2 balls of Sublime Kid Mohair, and 7 balls of Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK. Some things disappointed me when I finished...and then I realised I liked the sweater better for those things!

Firstly I thought the sleeves were too big, but now I'm wearing it and the sleeves are so snuggly I wouldn't want them any other way! Secondly I thought it was a bit too short - that's because it rolls a lot and also was never meant to be long. But I'm wearing it now over a long-ish vest top, and I really love the way it looks layered, and it would look equally good with most of my tops.

So it all worked out very well in the end, even if it wasn't exactly what I intended! I seem to be doing this a lot at the moment (see the outrageously pink scarf post). Happy days! I'm sure I'll totally cock something up sooner or later though.

Click on the photo to see more. I'm very pleased with my finished sweater, I'm going to work on my Lollypop sweater next!

It looks lovely, I especially like the dimond detail. Very interesting. I do think that sleeves look a bit baggy at the front top. Is it already blocked?

It's a fantastic sweater and it looks great on you! You're so talented :)

Katy you're absolutely right - the top of the sleeves is the problem - I wanted them wide at the bottom, so should have done less increases up the sleeve to compensate, but I forgot and did loads like usual and that's why it turned out too big! But I am happy with it anyway, so all's well!

Love the sweater, it's so elegant yet looks casually comfortable at the same time. And the criss-cross detailing looks spectacular! Any plans to offer up a pattern anytime soon?

It turned out really cute! I really like the lattice on the body.

That's fabby :D Loving the crosshatch and the matching ribbon too. So pretty! How did you find the Sublime yarn to work with? My local Beatties has a big sale on with 20% off Sublime and Sirdar yarns, so it would be interesting to see whether I should splash out on some while it has the discount...

I LIKE the baggy top sleeves. They're different, and add to the medieval feel of the whole thing. Love the colour and all the parts that make up the whole. P x x

Super cute! I love how you worked the two different yarn textures. When I see that on other patterns, it often doesn't work for me. Yours is great! Nice.
