Cornwall!
March 26, 2008
In a staggeringly irritating move, my website host has transferred everything to a new platform, which apparently means I can't check my emails, and all my website stats have been deleted. Also their customer service is diabolical, so it's been like this for a few days now. Which is why I haven't replied to any comments or emails! But thanks to the people who commented on my cashmere scarf, and to the commenter who asked, yes that is my Calm sweater I'm wearing, and I'll show it off properly maybe next time!
I've been pretty tired and fed up lately, so I was pleased it was Easter last weekend as I needed a break. Adam and I rented a cottage in the middle of nowhere in Cornwall, I brought a big box of food and nice wine, and it was lovely.
On the first day we made a picnic lunch and went to Padstow:
I made the rolls with spelt flour, they are brushed with egg to make them shiny!
Padstow was great to walk around for a couple of hours - it's also probably fantastic if you eat seafood. Then we went for a walk along the coast:
It was so windy but very good views, Adam climbed down to the beach but I couldn't be bothered!
The next day we went to the Eden Project - which was the main reason for coming to Cornwall for us. It has massive "biomes", which have different climates inside each one - there is a rainforest in one and a mediterranean climate in the other.
They are full of amazing plants that grow in parts of the world with similar weather - in the rainforest we saw gigantic palms and banana trees, and cocoa pods growing on the trees! They also have exhibits, and there's a lot of emphasis on the environment etc.
The mediterranean one has citrus trees, aloes, and the most amazing tulips, I know it's a hackneyed phrase but it really was a RIOT OF COLOUR.
It was great, everyone should go! Back soon with crafts, although I won't lie to you, they will probably be food rather than complicated fairisle jumpers.

That looks like a perfect break. I could do with some time surrounded by flowers in a mediterranean micro-climate myself!

Oh, excellent. I love the Eden Project. I have only been once - back in 2001 when it first opened. I love the different plants - do they still have the spice rack thing on wheels? And the coca-cola plant - I thought that was excellent. I can't wait to go again, but Cornwall is a long way from Scotland on public transport :)

I love the pix of places I've never been, so don't feel any crafting pressure! Love the Cornish shore. So gorgeous and sounds like you had fun.

Beautiful pictures. :)
I must thank you for posting that photo of the Storm tunic flat on the floor, because I actually purchased the pattern and the yarn for it yesterday after discovering a yarn store I never knew about but is my new favorite place in the world now... anyway, I started knitting the thing and had no idea how this was going to turn into the beautiful tunic in the pattern photo, it was so small and weird. I thought I was doing something wrong and was about to quit the whole thing when I accidentally ran into your blog and saw the photo! Every cell in my brain went "Ahhhhhhhhh!" I wasn't even looking for further instructions about the tunic. :P How lucky is that! I just started knitting the right front and can't wait to finish the whole thing. :) Thank you for that! Love your blog.

Great pictures! The Eden Project is wonderful isn't it? We haven't seen the spring displays yet - must go soon. It's so cool living down here in Cornwall now! BTW the rolls looks delicious. :-)

Hi Jen - those flowers are beautiful and a nice break for me, from the dreary weather we've been having in Canada. Glad to hear that you're doing well!
