Amber!

October 29, 2008

There is another Kim Hargreaves book out!

This one is called Amber, and is all kinds of lovely wintery knits - some which were on the website before, and some new ones.

Check it out here. I ordered mine straight away and got it in the post yesterday! It's so pretty - I love the beaded jumper Bloom, and the cardigan Ginny, although it doesn't look anything special online, when I got the book I really liked it.

I also like this giant cardigan, Nell, although there's no way I can afford that - maybe in a different yarn? I also love Prudence, but I'm a bit scared of using RYC Bamboo Soft. I've heard mixed reviews. A lot of people seem to say it's splitty, which I can believe and although it would annoy me, I would be willing to take it on. But some people say it stretches completely out of shape! That is definitely NOT something I could live with. Some people don't seem to have trouble though, so I'm not sure what to expect - anyone out there got any thoughts?

Maybe I will actually knit something from this book - you never know!

Haven't heard anything about Bamboo Soft in particular, but I have heard that about bamboo yarn in general--that it stretches quite a lot. Some recommend knitting the garment a size smaller than you normally would do (which requires going to a lot of extra trouble if you are already knitting the smallest size of a pattern!).

No! Stop tempting me! I can't afford another knitting book this month, or possibly next!

I looked at the links - the items are really gorgeous. And I have enough yarn for some of them... No, I *must* think about Christmas knitting. And I have a shawl to finish in the next three weeks (it's a wedding gift, so I really must). So what am I knitting? A hat - for myself! Argh! :)

I love the sleeves on Bloom - I really like those "is it a shrug and a top, or is it just a top?" styles. Have to agree with Kristin's comment - must not even LOOK at another pattern, book, or any yarn AT ALL until the Christmas knitting is done (which it isn't. And I blatantly cast on for a new scarf this week. I am weak).
Loving the wedding invitations too :)

I found it very splitty but nice when knitted. I made itas a gift and do not know how it has worn.
