More Dress Fabric!
October 31, 2008
I have now got all the fabric, lining, notions etc I need (minus a couple of metres of ribbon, a large white hook & eye, and an additional 6 buttons to cover with fabric), to make my wedding dress AND two bridesmaid dresses!
I hope I haven't been way too ambitious! But the bridesmaids picked the same sewing pattern (Vogue 7848, version C), and it is rated easy to sew, so that's a bonus. I've already cut out and marked all the pieces for one dress as well, and to be honest I think that's taken half the time I'll need to make it! I'm seeing one bridesmaid in 2 weeks, and I want it to be ready for her to try on then. I'm kind of doing their dresses as sewing practice before I start on mine!
The fabric shop (Broadwick Silks) gave me a card with all the fabric on, and also kept sample themselves in a book under my name, so if I need more, I just call up and they can send the exact fabric - pretty good idea.
From left to right:
My dress fabric (duchesse satin in blush)
My lining (it's so soft!)
Silk Dupion in this amazing silvery grey for the bridesmaids dresses
Bridesmaid's lining fabric
Purple silk dupion for sashes for the bridesmaid's dresses
Pale pink organza - to make roses to attach to my dress
So exciting!

I can't wait to see this all come together! When is your wedding date again? I haven't gotten my invite yet. ;-)

Gorgeous colours - the purple is wonderful! I, like the other commenters, can't wait to see it all!

Wow, this is all great! The colours you have chosen remind me of Kim Hagreaves choice of colours in Heartfelt, and maybe in a bit of Nectar as well (not that I am totally obsessed with her and her books you understand!!). Hope all the sewing goes well, and can't wait for your next blog post!!

what beautiful, beautiful fabrics that you've chosen! i love Broadwick Silks, it's the kind of shop that I'll step into if I'm in the area, just to stroke the bolts of fabric! I think that my bridesmaids dress for my mum's wedding was from there, too :)

Just lovely! Are you going to knit anything too? I've seen a lovely wedding photo on Ravelry in which both bride and bridesmaids are all wearing hand-knitted shrugs. But maybe you have enough to do...! Good luck. x

I envy you your wonderful project. i just made my daughter's wedding ensemble in silk satin and also made the MOB and grandmother of the bride suits. Relax, make muslins, tinker til youre satisfied, and then just enjoy the luxury of sewing with fine fabrics- oh, buy silk pins- a new box.

I've only just got round to actually looking at the bridesmaids' dress pattern - your girls obviously have good taste, it looks a fab design and your colours will really compliment.
Your commenters are usually a helpful lot, so I'll put this out there on the subject of weddings - anyone know a good pattern for a knit garter? Have promised a friend for her wedding... thinking I'll knit it in a nice scratchy llama yarn :)
