Pretty wedding jewellery

March 04, 2009

Hello again! I was going to write about my dress today, but I forgot to take some photos last night which wouldn't give the whole game away, so today is about the jewellery I made for myself and the bridesmaids instead.

I made the bridesmaids necklaces and matching bracelets a while ago, from kits that I bought at the Spellbound Bead Shop in Lichfield (near where my parents live). This is definitely one of my favourite shops in the world, as not only do they have loads and loads of amazing beads, but also they design and sell kits to make all kinds of things - necklaces, tiaras, everything you can imagine. They come with all the beads/thread/wire etc that you need and really good instructions.

I bought a kit called Neptune for the bridesmaids, in purple.

Here's the bracelet and necklace set (I made 3 in total):

And here's it worn:

It would pretty much fit anyone, as it doesn't have a clasp, just sits around the neck on a very sturdy wire (which was a total bitch to work with incidentally).

Onto my necklace! I didn't have trouble finding a kit design that I liked, but I really had trouble finding a colour combination that would go nicely with my dress. My dress is a weird colour, as it's very pale pink, but more like a vintage, peachy pink than a sugary pink. In the end I phoned up the shop, and they made me up a kit in the exact colours I wanted! They were BRILLIANT! They even offered that I could send a swatch of fabric in and they would match it, but I'd left it too late for that so I let them use their judgement, and what they picked was perfect.

I got the kit Gossamer, and here are some closeups of the necklace - I love the design, it's so lightweight and delicate:

And here's a photo of it on, where you can just see a tiny bit of my dress (so you can see it matches really well):

I am very happy with how all the jewellery making turned out - I felt like I was being a bit of a crazy lady making all that stuff when I didn't really have time, but I'm glad I did.

Both my sister and I had our bridesmaids jewelery made. It is fun to make it match your image of what you want. Your necklace is beautiful!

I absolutely love your necklace. I've already visited their site - what a lovely kit. So light and delicate, perfect for your day as a bride.

Jen, I had been waiting to see how your details were coming together, and it is LOVELY! How neat that you are taking such a hands-on approach to all of the details.

I can't wait to see more pictures after the big day. I am getting married next year and you are an inspiration!

Congratulations and have fun :)

I think you are very brave doing it all yourself. The bridesmaids’ jewellery is lovely and yours is a beautiful delicate necklace. Great vision and even better to see it realised. I can not wait to see the pics of the wedding.
