Knitting - December 2003   back to knitting blog

19-12-03

Well, I finished the first sleeve of the hoodie and started on the second, but that news pales into insignificance compared to the Colinette trip yesterday!  It was only a 2 hour drive to the shop, and quite a nice drive - mostly through countryside.  The shop is next to a river, in a big building.  There isn't a proper shop front, just a little door, and it was locked!  Then we saw a sign saying ring the bell, so we did and a lady came and let us in - we were the only people in the shop the whole time we were there!  She said almost all of their business is from mail order.

The shop is seriously incredible, it's got two large rooms FULL of gorgeous wool.  They had everything imaginable, it was so overwhelming - we spent almost 2 hours in there!  On the way there Mum was saying, "Oh I might make something, I'll have to see what there is", but she had made up her mind that she was going to within about one minute of arriving!  Even Dad was impressed, I think he secretly enjoyed himself.  What was really nice was that they had a lot of things made up, for display.  They had these gorgeous throws and cushions on all the chairs, and loads of garments.

We bought a ridiculous amount of yarn - it was just impossible not to, especially as it was cheaper in the shop than to buy it anywhere else - Point 5 is only £5.10 for a skein.

Mum and Dad bought me 11 skeins of Point 5 for Christmas, it's to make the flounce trimmed jacket in the Comfy Cosy magazine.  The yarn is really lovely, it's in shade Summer Berries and it's purple, orange, pink, grey and loads of shades - there's a picture in Stash (and a picture of everything else I bought).  I also bought yarn to make both me and mum felted bags, some mohair to trim the felted bag I've already made, Giotto for a summer tank and Fandango for a feather boa scarf!

Mum bought Isis for a jumper, and Dad bought her a ready-made jumper as well.  I could EASILY have bought more, but I'd spend enough money and I've now got enough projects to keep me going for about a year!  I had such a nice time, I would recommend any UK people to make the trip if they can.

I've put photos on this page here, have a look and be jealous!

I'm being really slack about updating my blog......I'm back at the parents' house now, and the internet is SO much slower than at university, I think it has spoiled me!  I have almost finished the first sleeve of the hoodie, ie there is barely any knitting progress to report.  The sleeve gets wider and wider, I get slower and slower, what else can I say?!  Seriously, I will probably explode if it isn't finished by Christmas.  I want to feel all snuggly in my cashmerino aran, next to the fire, sipping mulled wine and feasting on mince pies.  By the way, I tried hot mince pies with Baileys Irish cream liquor poured over them instead of cream the other day, and needless to say it was AMAZING (if naughty)!

I'm planning purchases for my trip to the Colinette shop in Wales, and getting very excited.  I'll try and take some pictures, to make you all jealous!

Only one more day to go!

Term's over!  I've actually done some knitting for the first time in ages.  I realised that Alison's gloves should really have a proper thumb, as they're going to have detachable mittens, so that's been fixed.

Then I decided that since Sop's gloves were for Christmas and Alison's were for her birthday on New Year I should work on Sop's instead - and I finished them!  It took me a lot of effort to get the right size (I've been experimenting for ages), but it's paid off, as now they fit like a glove (!).  There's a picture of them in finished projects, and hopefully I'll have some pictures of them being worn soon as well.

Now I've finished them I'm going to get back to the Debbie Bliss hoodie, I really want to be wearing it.  I'll do Alison's gloves over Christmas I expect.

I'm going back to my parents early this year - to get my Christmas present!  I asked them if instead of an actual present this year could they drive me to the Colinette shop in Wales - I don't have a car.  I'm very excited!  Hopefully I'll finish enough projects over the holidays to justify buying yarn that I will inevitably be unable to resist.  I've got a few purchases planned, but really I just want to go and look - there are no Colinette stockists near me so I've never been able to properly browse their range before.  We're going on the 18th December!

I'm in the middle of a big piece of work - the last one of term!  So I've not done much knitting, I'm just doing little bits in breaks between battling with exam questions.  I've been working on the hoodie, and am just starting the pattern up the first sleeve.  I'm hoping I'll finish the work this evening so I can take the whole of tomorrow off to knit!

Here's a picture of me and Adam, when we went out on Friday (and I wore my Dot tank and beaded necklace):

Click to made it big!

I hope I'll actually have some knitting news next time.
