Knitting - October 2004   back to knitting blog

26-10-04

Currently things are very very slow at xtreme-knitting!  Karis is slowly growing:

I am about a third of the way through the body in terms of how many rows I've done, but they get longer and longer, and I've not even finished one of the three balls yet, so I'm thinking there is a way to go yet!

I have only done about one extra inch on my beaded secret project - rubbish!  I think that maybe very soon I'm going to start on a super chunky project just so I can feel like I'm making some progress  :)

I also still haven't finished the legwarmers, can I be bothered?  They are all seamed up and finished, but then again it would only take an hour to add 2 extra stripes....I will do it soon.

I'm not really sure why I haven't blogged for a week (I know why really - laziness!), but I have things to show today!

I finished my legwarmers, and realised that I'd accidentally done 2 less stripes that I wanted (so annoying) so look out for those next time.

Next is Jen's finished hat, she isn't knitting anything just now - deciding what should be next I think - obviously she's not addicted....yet!  Click here to see the hat.

Lastly, I decided that Karis was the way to go with my Kidsilk Haze, and I have made a start - at the moment she's my project for knitting when no one else is around (so I can concentrate) - she's not difficult to make, but I find I do need to keep my mind on the job!  Here she is after doing the edging, picking up sts for the main body, and knitting a few rows:

I'm also plugging away at the secret project with Carolyn (that's my "take into the lab and work on at lunchtime" project), and something for my mum's birthday, so no pictures of these.  I'm sure in a few days if you come back you will be able to see another inch of Karis (my, what an incentive!).

Last night the other Jen came over again to knit, and finished her scarf!  It looks fantastic, and is an ace first attempt.  I knitted on my legwarmers, and just have a few ends to darn in on those so there will be pictures soon.

Anyway - here's Jen's scarf - click on the picture for more shots and all the details:

Now I've practically finished my legwarmers, and am still slowly plugging away on my secret project with Carolyn, I am thinking I should start something new!  I had planned to use my 3 balls of Kidsilk Haze in Candy Girl to make a Birch, but I'm no longer convinced that I should.....instead I was wondering if Karis (the lacy poncho from Rowan 36) would be a better project - I would probably use it more, and love love love the design.  Any opinions?

Over the weekend I went home to my parents house to see them and my grandpa, and to chill out (it was lovely).  I also was able to finish my poncho!  Ta-da!

Click on the picture for another view, and for the details.  I am very happy with it, and only took it off today as I couldn't get my arms in my coat with it on!  It's kind of posh as well - when I went to show it to my flatmates they were all "oooh you look nice, where are you going?" which is nice!

Now I seriously must finish my legwarmers, in fact I might do that tonight.

My beaded project has grown a little bit, but it might be a few more weeks before it's done and I can show it off.  I have been working on other things though - my friend Jen (who I have taught to knit a little bit before) suddenly decided that she had to learn to knit properly, right this minute!  So first she knitted a strip with a stocking st, moss and k2 p2 rib sections, to practice, and last night we started on a real project - the Pia scarf from Rowan's Big Just got Bigger magazine.  Here's how she was doing after one evening's progress:

It's about halfway finished already - well, the knitting is, there is a fringe to add as well afterwards.  She's using Big Wool Tuft, which is ace, but maybe not the best thing for a beginner because it's fluffy and harder to see the stitches.

While she was doing that I started on the Coty crocheted poncho from the same magazine....I am probably about a third done, so hopefully we'll both finish on Sunday and have stuff to show.  Have a great weekend!
