Cotton Print Aprons
I saw a really pretty stripey apron in a catalogue, and was inspired to make my own. My friend Jess wanted one too, so we went shopping and chose print fabrics, and plain contrasts for the aprons.
They are really easy to make and cheap even if you chose quite posh fabric - which we did! Ours were hand-woven and printed in India! The shop had a ton of ever so pretty prints.
Here's us wearing our aprons! Instructions are below (using my apron as an example):

Materials:
Cotton print measuring approximately 90cm x 50cm for the apron.
Plain cotton measuring approximately 90cm x 50cm for ties, applique and pocket.
Matching sewing thread.
Pins, scissors and tailor's chalk.
Here's my materials:

Instructions:
Lay out the print fabric and cut out the armholes, such that they are 1/4 of the fabric long, and leave the top 30cm wide (you can fold the fabric in half to cut them out so they are identical:

Turn in 1cm seam allowances on all edges, cutting notches in the armholes first as they are curved, then turn in again and stitch in place:

From the plain fabric, cut out a rectangle of 30cm x 23cm. Fold it in half with the shortest sides together, and round off the bottom corners to make the pocket:

Cut notches along the curved edges of the pocket, and then turn in 1cm seam allowances. Pin the pocket to the front of the apron, and stitch in place:

Draw your name onto the plain fabric, and cut out the letters:

Attach the letters to the fron of the apron - I just used pritt stick to glue them in place! It doesn't matter because you will be sewing them in a minute:

Using a zig zag stitch with very short stitches (my machine calls it satin stitch), sew around the letters. I did mine first and it was ok, but not as neat as when I did Jess's:

Now for the straps! Cut out 8 strips measuring about 50-60cm by 4.5cm (just use however much fabric you have - I think mine measured 55cm):

Fold in 1cm seam allowances on all long edges, and pin strips together:

Stitch. Now fold over 1cm of fabric twice on one end of each strip, and stitch:

Finally, fold over 1 cm at the other end of each strip, and place it over the apron, two at the top, and two at the bottom of each armhole. Stitch:

Finished!
