Shirred Dress
I made this dress (well, it's more like a long top) from a REALLY cool old pattern book of my mum's, called Golden Hands. From what I can gather it was a monthly crafty magazine in the '70s. All I can say is that the patterns in it are dead cool and I wish it still existed today! I used 1m of 1.5m wide cotton print fabric. I could have made it a little longer if I'd been planning more carefully, but that's ok because I was always planning to wear it over trousers, so it probably looks better as a longish top.
The exciting (to me!) technique here is shirring, which you achieve by putting thin elastic on the bobbin of the sewing machine, winding it on tightly. Even with that though it was a quick project!
